Our home is located in a very small community named Obi (pronounced Oh-By) situated in the south western portion of New York state. This area is more commonly known as "The Southern Tier". We are 60 miles south of Buffalo and 50 miles east of Jamestown. The Pennsylvania border is just 5 miles south of our home.
We live in a rural area of Allegany County 5 miles from the town of Bolivar. Bolivar is a small community that evolved out of the era when oil was the leading economical asset. The region consists of rolling foothills covered with hardwood. These hills are populated with oil wells and pump houses. Although most oil leases are abandoned, some have been rejuvinated and are being pumped once again.
Though it is a short lived period each year, the Autumn hardwood trees in full bloom are absolutely breath taking.
This area is definitely a 4 season section of the USA. Temperatures can range from 90 F in the Summer to -20 F in the Winter.
Visitors to our region usually choose Niagara Falls as the main point of interest. Niagara Falls is just North of Buffalo requiring about 2 hours driving time from our home. The Falls with all its power and beauty is a must see attraction. There are two sets of falls better known as the American Falls and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Both falls can be viewed from either country. Visitors can walk or drive over a bridge that joins the USA and Canada.
If you have never been to Niagara Falls you can visit them without leaving your home. Take a virtual ride on the "Maid of the MIST".
In the Summer of 2001 we built a 2080 sq. ft. modular design 2 story home on our existing lot. The home was built by Premier Builders in Muncy PA. and purchased as well as installed by Lewis Homes of Wellsboro PA.
